comodo antivirus
Being a veteran user of Norton AntiVirus up to its 2005 release, and then Computer Associates eTrust EZ AntiVirus, I have the opportunity to use Comodo AntiVirus 1.1 for about two months. That said, let me share with you my findings and comments about Comodo’s. Platform Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz, 768 MB of RAM, and 128 MB ATI Radeon 9200. Pros 1. Real-time (on-access) protection and scanning of files. 2. Manual scanning of the whole computer (memory + disks), certain disks, individual folders/files, or memory. 3. Auto-update feature that keeps the virus list updated so that computer is protected from the latest viruses. 4. Ability to check for updates even if you have logged in using a limited user account. 5. Incorporates an interface similar to that of Norton AntiVirus, especially the settings control panel. 6. Incorporates a heuristic scanning feature, similar to that of Norton AntiVirus, and its strength can be customized according to your needs. 7. Capable of scanning and disinfect disk files, applications loaded in memory, and emails. 8. Incorporates a quarantine feature that locks infected but not-repair-able files into a secured, isolated vault. 9. Manual scanning jobs can be scheduled. 10. Low consumption of processing and memory resources. 11. Simple user interface with nice colors. 12. Technical support is available through emails in addition to a community forum. 13. A world-class anti-virus; see the "best free antivirus software" and "How Good is CAVS" forum threads. 14. It is better than avast! See the "comodo vs avast" forum thread. Cons 1. Program settings cannot be password-protected. 2. Access to the program has to be through the Launch Pad. However, level of integration of Comodo products into that Launch Pad is less than expected when compared to that of Norton Internet Security. That is, you have to run the Launch Pad, and then click a button to open Comodo AntiVirus. Another way is to open it through the context menu of the Launch Pad tray icon. 3. The auto-update feature is only accessible from the program’s main window. Actually, each of the installed products has its very own auto-update component. Conclusion It has a very good performance and virus detection rate for a lifetime, free-of-charge license. Get your copy!
